The New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region and runner-up in the NPP’s 4 November 2023 presidential primaries, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has joined the campaign of vice-president and presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Agyapong joined the campaign in the Ashanti Region today, Tuesday (12 June 2024), where Dr Bawumia is on a three-day tour, which is the last leg of the vice-president’s début tour of all 16 regions of Ghana, in what the NPP says is the first phase of their party leader’s campaign.

Since his unsuccessful attempt to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections, Kennedy Agyapong has kept a very low profile.

Asaase News has gathered from confidential sources in the Office of the President that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, have been engaging with Agyapong in the president’s efforts to get all hands on deck for the NPP’s 2024 campaign.

The source further disclosed to Asaase News that just last week President Akufo-Addo had lunch with Agyapong as the president initiated processes to get everyone on board to prosecute the NPP’s 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections campaign for the party to “Break the 8”.

Dr Bawumia began his campaign on 29 April 2024 in the Eastern Region and has visited all 16 regions of the country since then, the Ashanti Region being the last.

Asaase News sources in the NPP say that after the first phase of his campaign, the vice-president will step up his campaign activities across the country from next month onwards. He is also expected to name his running mate to complete the NPP’s 2024 presidential ticket.
