Akufo-Addo commissions modern Bolgatanga Regional Hospital
President Akufo-Addo has underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially inaugurated phase 3 of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital rehabilitation project in the Upper East Region.
The Bolgatanga Regional Hospital project has seen progress through successive governments.
The first phase was initiated in 2008 under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, followed by a second phase in 2015 under the Mills administration. The current administration initiated and completed the third phase.
“Today, the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital stands as an exemplary facility, offering a wide range of healthcare services to the people of the Upper East Region. This transformation was made possible by a US$20 million concessional loan from the Saudi Fund for Development, which supported the second and third phases of the project.
“Additionally, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Health, secured another US$12 million facility from the Saudi Fund for Development to cover the design, supervision, and civil works for phase 3 of the hospital’s rehabilitation,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
“While the project initially faced funding challenges that threatened to limit its scope, the government, through the Ministry of Health, successfully secured an additional US$20 million from the Saudi Fund for Development. This funding, totaling approximately US$52 million, ensured the completion of phase 3 of the project,” the president added.
The new additions include a modern mortuary block, accommodation for doctors, a relative hostel and a medical gas building. Additionally, the project features a comprehensive fence wall, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and a laundry facility.
The president urged health personnel at the Upper East Regional Hospital to take good care of the facility and remain committed to providing the best possible healthcare to the people of the region and beyond.
President Akufo-Addo also underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
“By the end of 2024, a significant number of health-related projects will be completed, including the Urology and Nephrology Center of Excellence at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, as well as 11 district hospitals and one polyclinic in the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo, and Greater Accra regions,” he concluded.
