Ralph Poku-Adusei made the gesture on Monday (11 November) as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited Bekwai on his 15-day tour of the Ashanti Region.

In an unprecedented move, Lawyer Ralph Poku-Adusei, the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Bekwai, knelt before traditional leaders (nananom) and constituents to ask them to vote in their numbers for the NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, and for himself as their MP, in the presidential and parliamentary elections due on 7 December 2024.

Lawyer Poku-Adusei urged constituents to vote massively for Dr Bawumia, as they did for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and ex-president John Agyekum Kufuor in previous elections.

He highlighted the NPP’s projects in the constituency and continuing initiatives, emphasising that only the NPP, under Dr Bawumia’s leadership, can complete and initiate new projects that will trigger wholesale development.

Ralph Poku-Adusei made the gesture on Monday (11 November 2024) as the vice-president and presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Bawumia, visited Bekwai in his ongoing constituency-based campaign, which has taken him to over 250 out of the 276 constituencies across Ghana.

The gesture has sparked optimism that Bekwai will maintain its tradition since 1992 and the start of the Fourth Republic of handing landslide victories to the NPP, with Poku-Adusei’s affectionate nickname of “Young Wise Counsel” potentially reflecting in the votes on 7 December.

The atmosphere during the campaign event was charged, with party sympathisers defying their usual Monday morning ritual of coming out late after weekend socialising to support their parliamentary candidate, Ralph Poku-Adusei, the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia, and the party as a whole.
