Bawumia pledges 50% reduction in electricity costs through solar energy policy

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to exploring alternative energy sources to lower electricity costs and improve the standard of living in Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia noted that high production costs, driven by reliance on imported oil and gas for electricity generation, significantly contribute to rising electricity prices.

While campaigning in the Asante Akim South constituency on Saturday, November 16, he emphasized that transitioning to solar energy would be a key focus of his administration.

“Our electricity bills have increased because we rely on importing oil and gas to produce power. I plan to address this by prioritizing solar energy. We have abundant sunlight and the necessary technology to generate solar power. My government will establish solar farms in every district, reducing electricity costs by 50%,” he stated.

Throughout his campaign, Dr. Bawumia has consistently advocated for policies aimed at reducing the cost of living, supporting businesses, and easing household expenses. He assured Ghanaians that addressing electricity costs would be central to these efforts.

Meanwhile, the Obogumanhene, Nana Owusu Ampehone, commended the NPP government for its Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, describing it as a transformative initiative for the chiefs and people of Asante Akim South.

“We are grateful for the Free SHS policy. It has significantly benefited our people. We urge Dr. Bawumia to construct our town roads when he becomes president,” Nana Owusu Ampehone appealed.
