Kingsley Amoakwa Boadu, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Legal Directorate, has come to the defence of Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over his controversial comments about Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

During his unveiling as running mate, Dr Opoku Prempeh stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpass those of former President Dr Kwame Nkrumah, sparking criticism. However, the former Energy Minister later apologised for his remarks.

In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Boadu argued that the apology by Dr Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO demonstrates his humility, contradicting perceptions of arrogance.

Boadu noted that individuals who are assertive and well-dressed are often mislabelled as arrogant, emphasising that NAPO is assertive, not arrogant.

“Of course, there’s a lot of discussions and interpretations you can give as to ‘mo Nkrumah no’, [your Nkrumah]… He has come to apologise and emphasise what he meant…That is his view and he’s allowed to express his view even on the political platform.

“People are thinking that therefore his image is dented, and he has now confirmed that he’s arrogant and whatnot. This issue of arrogance, we must posit within the appropriate context.

He stressed, “If you are articulate, suave and you dress well, certain quarters will say you are arrogant. We fail to distinguish between assertiveness, result-drivenness and arrogance. If the person was arrogant, he wouldn’t have apologised. He has apologised, it means that his humility is out there for all of us to see.”
