Pressure on Bawumia to select running mate has no basis, says Hackman Owusu-Agyeman

Owusu-Agyemang expressed concern over the mounting public and media pressure to expedite the announcement of the vice-presidential candidate of the NPP.
Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, the chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, has urged restraint regarding pressure on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate to announce his running mate.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (12 June), Owusu-Agyemang emphasised that Bawumia is following a prescribed process in selecting his vice-presidential candidate.
“It has never happened before in the life of this particular party of the NPP, where there have been pressures and campaigns all over the place for who partners him [Bawumia],” Owusu-Agyemang noted.
“At the end of the day, it is Dr Bawumia’s face and name which will be on the ballot paper.”
“There are 16 regions; carrying out his duty as vice-president sometimes acting president and then going around takes a bit of time, so he needs time to do all these things and due process in this instance the constitution in consultation with the national council,” Owusu-Agyeman added.
He expressed concern over the mounting public and media pressure to expedite the announcement.
“The pressure being put on by the press and by people has no basis,” he said.
“There is enough time for him to do that [select running mate]. He is the man that is going to be on the ballot. I don’t think that the elections are won by vice-presidential candidates… We have to give the gentleman the rope and the time to look at everything.”
